Cuba is known for sugar and tobacco. Once the world’s biggest sugar exporter, Cuba produces a fraction of potential, with cane harvested by machete and transported on horse carts. The world’s finest cigars also are manufactured here, but numbers have fallen . With so much farmland, much of it fallow, there’s great potential to make Cuba self-sufficient in food once again, eventually becoming a large exporter.
